Students loved their penny loafers, saddle shoes, bucks and other hand sewn footwear.
Many years later, under new management, Cole Haan entered the women’s shoe market as well. Colorful red, green and bright colors shoes shook up the industry. Eye catching design and quality craftwork quickly built up a following of devoted fans.
Always innovating, Cole Haan created a line of driving shoes, in which the sole extends up, behind the heel, making use of a car’s foot pedals smoother. The company also has a fine line of leather handbags, wallets and belts. They also branched out into eyewear and other accessories
Cole Haan was acquired by athletic shoe maker Nike in 1988. Classic Cole Haan styling paired nicely with Nike cushioning and support. It worked well for a while, but the two companies parted ways amicably in 2012.
